So I've spent my day wandering around in the cold being a children's book fairy. ;) I went to a book talk a few weeks ago on the best books for kids published in 2003 by the woman who is the head of the Children's Lit Institute thingy at Simmons. I had promised the owner of a local bookshop here in JP that I'd get him the list and tell him about the talk. This was back before Christmas...oops..oh well... Anyway, I went there today and we sat down and discussed the list...he now has several of the titles on order for next week. Amazing how people take me seriously now. I sure have them fooled! ;)

I stopped by the library after that to pick up some reading for myself, and found myself in a long discussion with the children's librarian there. She had four of the titles on the list sitting in front of her that she was deciding about ordering, so we talked about them and then I gave her the list. I just wish it was my list that I am giving everyone. Still is nice to be useful though.

I know that we are all long past childhood, but I have a book that I think all you fantasy-loving people out there might like. I haven't had a chance to read it myself, but I have requested it from the library. It's the beginning of the Bartimeus Trilogy: The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud. Check it out...I think it'll be big with kids, and from what I've seen it's far better written than Harry Potter .
