Okay, we now have a cat. Probably temporary, but who knows? Like I said, never a dull moment around here...
So, yesterday, I had my Dad, his gf, and one of my brothers over to help consume hamantashen (which Elliot did a little too well...wonder how sick he got?). Shortly before they were about to leave, Lily pointed out that there was a cat on the porch frantically trying to get in. It was impressive, it was meowing loudly and clawing at our screen. I didn't recognize it, but I knew that the people two doors down have a gray tiger cat that is an indoor cat, but I thought it was younger. My family left, and we let the cat into the entranceway while Dan went to talk to our neighbors. Turns out it was not their cat, but it had shown up at their door last night very hungry. In fact, this cat had run right into their building, and directly to their apartment door. Now they moved in this past September, and the guy that lived there before had a gray tiger cat. So now we are working on the assumption that the cat is Tootsie. We took him in overnight, and are heading out to put signs up soon.
This cat has clearly been a housecat, because he is way too comfortable with the routines of a household. He made himself right at home, has no desire to go back outside, and acts as if he's lived here for years. (Well, except for the eating ravenously as if he hadn't eaten well in a week or two.) This was within the first 20 minutes of being here. The last time we took in a neighborhood cat for its protection, it practically tore up the place trying to get back out while we located the owners. Strange cat. We have been calling him "Cat," and the Breakfast at Tiffany's references are getting to be a bit much. ;)
