I had my first Oral History class today, and I have to say that I'm intrigued. Everyone is in the class for such different reasons, and have such wide-ranging ideas for projects. My ultimate goal (for after I finish the class) is to create a family history. I used to imagine starting a business talking to people's grandparents and creating video histories that the family could have long after their relatives were gone. I guess this class will help me see if I have any talent for it, and if I enjoy it. We're only doing audio interviews for the class, but it'll give me a sense of the basics.
That said, I need a project and fast ! Since we are conducting interviews we are using "human subjects" so we have to go through the whole ethics proposal crap (even though congress recently exempted oral history from this process). Anyone who has ever been through this knows what a pain in the arse it is, and how long it can take. I have couple of ideas, but they all involve finding people I don't know and finding a way to meet/talk to them. So I could use some help. If anyone has a good idea for a project, and knows someone they could introduce me to, I would be incredibly grateful.
