So, as the above subject might indicate, I had my first storytime today with a group of first and second graders. The librarian was out of town, so I was in charge due to the incompetent sub they gave us.

Given the weather for the past week, I thought Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs would be appropriate, and I finished with a few poems from Where The Sidewalk Ends ("Sick" and "Sarah Silvia Cynthia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out"). It went quite well.... The kids called out a lot, but I expected that, and they did quiet down when I asked them to. They like to talk about the story as you read it to them. The teacher was impressed that she didn't have to come over and discipline the kids even once, and that they were all paying attention and not looking at other books or rolling around etc. I'll take that as a sign that they enjoyed themselves.
