I think holidays always bring out the oddities in one's life. I am pleased to say that my family came through this year without fighting, screaming, or arguing. Possibly a first. That is not to say that there weren't mishaps and weirdness. Did I tell the 20 pounds of bones story on here yet?

Story )

The first night rolls around, and David wants to serve the soup that he made. He has been meticulous about the making of this soup, snapping at people and using a meat thermometer to keep the temperature stable. Yet somehow he leaves it on the stove as people arrive and we start doing other things. When it comes time to serve the soup, it comes out like a thick, lumpy white gruel. It looked like something straight out of Oliver Twist. The rice had dissolved or something. It tasted okay I guess, but incredibly unappetizing.

That night, I discovered that my Great Aunt has been best friends with the Hat Sisters for over 30 years, and recently attended their wedding. I was really surprised. She has offered to have us all over for tea or something so we can meet. How do I live up to the fashion sense of two of Boston's most famous drag queens?

David brought out his Jesus action figure with gliding action. We all had way too much fun with that, including my cousin Shelah who would have been pissed at the whole idea a few years ago.

Somber thoughts )

Last night Dan and I went to [livejournal.com profile] awhyzip's place for Shabbat dinner. We always have the most amusing Shabbats with her. One time it was the Fourth of July and we couldn't bring wine to the fireworks, and didn't have grape juice. So we had plastic glasses with water and one grape smooshed in the bottom. Last night we were on her back porch where we would be eating dinner. We were kind of boxed in and didn't want to maneuver our way around into the kitchen to do the ritual washing of the hands which would have taken about ten minutes or so (kind of like on Passover). So instead, she grabbed some bottles of spring water that were sitting on the porch and we washed our hands over the railing into the backyard from the second floor porch!

Whoops, this post got long. But I finally learned how to make that face-thing appear by people's usernames. :)
