ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I've spent large portions of today wondering if we do in fact own our condo or whether we will be charged the wrong taxes and ger audited and GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Calmer, I'm calmer. See, according to the city, we don't own our condo, the last owner does. I finally found out about an hour ago that our deed was registered correctly (phew), so according to the state and everything that matters we own the place. Good. One problem down. However, the city still thinks that the old owner has the place, and she gets a residential tax exemption thta we (apparently...i just found this out today, and I'm having an accountant double check it, b/c we were told different by the lawyer when we closed on the place) don't get. This means that we will be charged 7 TIMES LESS taxes than we owe. Of course if we pay that, we will then get audited for not paying our taxes. GRRR. All of this despite the fact that I filled out the right cards TWICE in the last six months. I'm thinking of calling my city councillor to see if he can do anything to help me.
Oh yeah, due to the fact that we are not the owners according to the city as of Jan 1 this year, we curretly do not qualify for the residential exemption for next year.
And I had such a good weekend too. Sigh.
